Mrs Brown’s Boys returned to the BBC to celebrate its 10-year anniversary for Halloween, but the episode has reportedly been ranked as the lowest-rated to date, according to viewing figures.

The live show’s Halloween special, which starred Brendan O’Carroll, aired on Friday night, but the only thing scary about the programme was its viewing figures.

According to the Daily Star, the Irish comedy sketch, which saw Agnes Brown welcoming trick or treaters to her home in Finglas, Ireland, was watched by 2.6million viewers.

It’s thought to be the lowest in audience ratings since the show debuted in 2011.

The sitcom aired for three series from 2011 until 2013.

The spin-off chat show All Round to Mrs Brown’s aired from 2017 to 2020, failing to return for 2021 due to the pandemic, while the feature film Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie was released in 2014.

Brendan recently announced that the upcoming Christmas episode will pay tribute to crew member Dennis Knotts, who died after contracting Covid.

‘He was the most adorable man and actually, we dedicated the Christmas episode to him, we loved him very much,’ he said.

‘We lost one of the family. There were people who had worked with Dennis for 40 years and they are just devastated; they can’t believe it.’

While some fans are desperate for the show to return as a regular series, it seems that won’t be happening any time soon.
