Working with your family isn’t an easy task, as Mrs Brown’s Boys star Danny O’Carroll has shared after he had to propose to his stepmother.

On the hit RTE show, which also airs on the BBC, the actor stars as Buster Brady — a friend of title character and matriarch Agnes Brown, played by his Brendan O’Carroll, Danny’s father.

Another family member on the show is Jennifer Gibney, Brendan’s wife, who stars as Agnes’ daughter Cathy Brown.

One awkward moment for Danny was a Mrs Brown’s Boys episode in which Buster proposes to Cathy.

The TV star was talking about 10 years of Mrs Brown’s Boys with Ireland AM host Alan Hughes, admitting he was shocked the show has lasted so long.

Alan commented on how close the cast is not only as colleagues but as a family.

Danny laughed, saying: ‘There are some awkward bits as well.

‘I look back on one of the shows there only a couple of weeks ago, and I had to propose to Jenny — Jenny in real life is my stepmum!

‘I remember that day and telling her that I love her and all that, getting on the one knee and asking her to marry me. It was the most awkward thing to do with your stepmum.’

‘It came across very well on TV,’ he concluded, saying the show is ‘great fun’.

Mrs Brown’s Boys has been around for a decade and to mark the occasion the cast and crew aired a live Halloween special on Sunday night on RTE One and BBC One.

‘There’s nobody more shocked than us,’ Danny said as he spoke about how long the show has run.

‘It is what it is — we don’t know what it is but the BBC bought more so we just say, “yeah”. Hopefully they continue to do so.
