Mrs Brown’s Boys star Gary Hollywood ‘hasn’t heard’ from Brendan O’Carroll since leaving show last year

GARY Hollywood hasn’t heard from Brendan O’Carroll since he left the show last year after a falling out and said 2020 was the ‘worst year of his life.’

The actor played hairdresser Dino Doyle in the award-winning comedy.

But after he was axed from one of their two Christmas specials last year, he quit the role completely.

In a chat with this week’s OK Magazine, asked if he heard from the Dubliner he said: “Nope. It’s unfortunate the way things unfolded. I did hope we’d be able to reconcile or communicate respectfully, but it is what it is.”

He added: “There was a problem with pay and things came to a head. Dealing with the fall out has been extremely exhausting and has really taken its toll on me emotionally.”

The falling out came just months after his brother Gerard passed away.

“The one good thing to come out of Covid and everything shutting down is that it’s given me the time and space to properly process it and grieve fully. It still doesn’t make it any less painful, especially when you realise as time goes on you’ll never truly get over the loss of a sibling.

"He had been in hospital and was given the all clear from Covid, then shortly after he had two heart attacks.”

He said it made him conscious of his ‘own mortality’ as a dad-of-four.

And the tough times continued when his son Ollie was born four weeks premature, weighing just over 5lb.

He was jaundiced and in an incubator but Gary said he is now ‘thriving.’

The 40-year-old said that year was “absolutely been the worst year of my life. I’ve felt depressed because it felt like it was one thing after another.”
