Mrs Brown’s Boys star Eilish O’Carroll reveals she got dog to help her during lockdown struggle

MRS Brown's Boys star Eilish O'Carroll revealed that she got a dog to help her during her lockdown struggle.

The Irish actress opened up about having a difficult time and suffering from a "little bit" of depression amid the pandemic.

Eilish was used to being busy and performing live shows with her family, however, due to Covid restrictions she has been off stage for two years now.

The Dublin native told Kathryn Thomas on RTE Radio 1 about how lockdown and being by herself was a struggle for her mentally.

She said: "I'll admit I felt a little bit depressed on occasions and I don't suffer from depression."

LOCKDOWN PUPPY

Eilish explained how getting a dog helped.

She said: "So I went out and bought myself a little puppy because I was desperate for something to hug."

She added: "That's not the only reason, I always wanted a dog but I was never in a position to have one because I was never at home.

"So I thought this could go on for years so I'm going to get that dog I've always wanted to have."

The actress cleverly named her puppy Jacko after her on-screen husband that no one has actually ever seen on the show, to give life to him.

CAMPING OUT

Another thing Eilish bought to deal with lockdown was a campervan.

She said: "It's a real Scooby-Doo van, that's what I call it. It's a little VW Volkswagen with a high top and it's gorgeous.

"I've always kind of hankered for a campervan."

She added: "We've had some great weekends away in it and great day trips in it."

BACK AND FORTH

When asked what makes her happy now, Eilish responded: "My dog... walking my dog, hugging my friends and family for the first time in a couple of years and being safe about it, eating ice cream, going off in my camper, fish and chips at the sea side and what more could you want."

The Mrs Brown's Boys star talked about her "ideal situation" with her partner Marion was to live apart during lockdown.

She said: "My partner lives in Cork, I live in Dublin and we go between the two."

Eilish said she got to the stage in lockdown that she thought: "If I see your face when I come down in the morning again... I can't hack it!", about her partner.

She added: "I was angry at the world. She was angry at the world. She was missing Cork as well.

"We both learnt something new and we had both kind of been involved in other things that we would not of if it hadn't been for Covid.

"I always try to look on the positive, what's been the best about covid and I can tick those boxes."
