Mrs Brown's Boys' Brendan O'Carroll explains why he hates having to ....

Mrs Brown's Boys actor Brendan O'Carroll has revealed why he would never dress up as his famous character when the camera's stop rolling.

The actor, 67, who is returning with a long-awaited fourth series next week for the first time since 2013, said he hasn't missed transforming into Mrs Brown.

Brendan insisted he has never appeared on a chat show or interview as Mrs Brown because he doesn't think she would 'have anything to say'.

He also revealed he can't stand the taste of lipstick and doesn't understand how women can wear tights, but has a 'huge admiration' for them'.

He told the Mirror: 'Jesus, no, I don't miss her at all,' laughs Brendan his his thick Dublin accent. I don't know how women wear tights, or survive with mammaries. I have a huge admiration for women, honest to God the stuff they have to go through.

'And here's the thing – I can't stand the taste of lipstick. I hate it, it tastes of soap. If you watch the show you'll see that I never lick my lips, never. So as soon as the show's over it all comes off straight away and I put her back in her box.'

'Mrs Brown doesn't leave the theatre ever. I've never done a talk show as Mrs Brown, or an interview as her. She has nothing to say. What would you ask her? How's the family? I have no inkling to take her onto the street. Everyone will recognise her, Jesus I'd be battered. It's hard enough being Brendan O'Carroll. If it wasn't for me doing Jonathan Ross no-one would know me. And I'd have no problem with that.'

The hit sitcom has been a fixture of the Christmas TV schedules for over a decade but the upcoming episodes will mark the first new series since 2013.

And now the return date for the series has been revealed, with Mrs Browns Boys hitting screens again next month.

The BBC have confirmed that the series will return for four more episodes on Friday September 8 at 9.30pm.

The episodes of the popular show will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Earlier this year, show creator Brendan - who also leads the cast as matriarch Agnes Brown - admitted the show has been 'thwarted twice' due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as it was originally scheduled to hit screens in 2021.

Speaking of the new series, the 67-year-old comic said: 'This mini-series was actually planned for 2021.
