Eilish O’Carroll: Live, Love, Laugh

Eilish O’Carroll is bringing her effervescent wit and spirit to The Civic on Wednesday May 24 at 8pm for a performance of her award-winning one-woman show ‘Live, Love, Laugh’.

Eilish first experienced fame for her ongoing role as Winnie McGoogan in her brother’s staple BBC sitcom ‘Mrs. Brown’s Boys’ that is returning in a four-part mini-series, which she continues to “love” alongside “any aspect” of the entertainment industry.

A lifelong performer, the role channeled O’Carroll’s ingrained need to distinguish herself that she attributes to growing up in a family as large as her own (she’s the ninth out of ten) that bred competition for attention.

Two years after Mrs. Brown’s Boys’ television airing, the actor’s determination to tell her own story in the age of potentially distorted media coverage drove her to write what is now her successful show but at the time, essentially “an exercise” for her to “exorcise my own demons”.

After presenting it at the Dublin Gay International Theatre Festival at friends’ urging in 2012, O’Carroll has captivated audiences throughout the U.K. and Ireland with her unflinchingly honest, poignant yet riotously funny reflection on a roller-coaster life that resonates with audiences.

Although contending with the hardships she has faced, O’Carroll has always sought to “find the laughter in everything” and believes audiences can relate to and are moved by the show’s “light and shade”.

After two years away from the stage during the pandemic and an initially limited return to the full vitality of performance, the congenital performer is grateful to connect with live unmasked audiences again.

Audiences will gain privy to O’Carroll’s remarkable, laughter-and-hardship-studded life featuring a strict Catholic upbringing in Dublin, two failed marriages, and coming out as a Lesbian at 50.

Tickets can be bought at The Civic website HERE for €24 (€22 concession) or €43 for a meal deal.
