Mrs Brown’s Boys star Paddy Houlihan reveals all about ‘weird’ secret holiday with co-star Danny O’Carroll

MRS Brown’s Boys star Paddy Houlihan has revealed all about his “weird” but wonderful secret holiday.

The actor jetted off alongside longtime pal and co-star Danny O’Carroll to Amsterdam as the pair took part in RTE’s High Road Low Road series.

In it two celebs are sent to the same destination — but one gets the five-star treatment and the other gets sent straight to economy.

Paddy, better known as Dermot Brown on the hit show, admitted that he found the experience to be a little different from what he was used to.

He said: “We had a great trip. It was weird because I had never gone to the airport before not knowing where I was going.

“It was literally turn up, and we were just told to pick an envelope and keep our fingers crossed that we don’t end up with the lesser of the two experiences.”

The 39-year-old added: “It was just weird. The build-up to it, not knowing where you’re going, getting there.

“We ended up in Amsterdam, and neither of us had been there before, so it was even stranger that way, but we had a great trip.

“We didn’t see a whole lot of each other. We were split up, and we did different things. We met, I think, once or twice. We had lots to report to each other, but it was just a different way to see a place. It was great craic. I needed a week to recover because I was just wrecked.”

Paddy and Danny, who plays Buster Brady, have known each other for years, having met when they were kids before going on to work together on the iconic Brendan O’Carroll show.

Speaking about their first encounter, Paddy said: “I think we were about 10 when we first got to know each other, and that happened with a fight.

"We were actually in a fight with each other, lumping the heads off each other, and that was the first memory of truly getting to know him. Within a week, we were best pals.”

The Dubliner said he doesn’t remember what the fight was about.

He added: “I think it was five on five. Everyone picked who they wanted to fight, and Danny was quite a bit smaller than me, so I said I’ll take him.”
