Rory Cowan opens up about how he lost place on I'm A Celeb

Rory Cowan has revealed how he was ruled out of competing on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here back in 2019.

Shortly after stunning fans by quitting Brendan O’Carroll’s sitcom Mrs Brown's Boys, Rory flew to London to meet with ITV bosses about potentially entering the jungle.

However, panto star Rory was sadly ruled out of heading down under for the reality TV show after discovering that he had Type 2 diabetes.

'I’ve been approached to do a few things. I met the people in I’m A Celebrity back in 2019 in London after I left Brendan.

'It was the day before I went on holiday to Israel and when I was in Israel, I discovered I had Type 2 diabetes. They never made me an offer, but I was talking to them,' he told the Mirror.

When it comes to living with diabetes, Rory has to 'watch' what he eats and 'eat at regular times' in order to stay healthy.

While fans would love to see him on Dancing On Ice in the future, Rory ruled it out due to his native country's lack of ice rinks.

He explained: 'There’s no way I could’ve done Dancing on Ice because there’s no ice rinks in Ireland, the closest one is in Belfast, and I wouldn’t be able to go up there every day and do it.'

Rory 'never heard back from' the show's organisers after asking if they'd provide him accommodation in London in order to train in the English capital's ice rinks.

However, one show that he definitely won't do is RTE's Dancing with the Stars, despite being asked to take part 'every season'.

This year's series of the ballroom dancing competition is a write-off for Rory after he underwent back surgery several weeks ago.

'It’s nothing serious but I wouldn't be able to throw myself around the floor. It was a disc sitting on my nerve. It was nothing serious, but I’ve been told to take it easy,' he admitted.
