He said: “One of the few to get a preview copy is Buckingham Palace. I was speechless a couple of years ago when our producer first told me that they wanted an advance copy.”

He explained: “The magic ingredient is the audience. They let us know if anything isn’t funny.

“The deal with them is – this is your night out, so come in, sit down and we’ll make you laugh. I never see the show before it airs on TV.”

The Queen is an avid TV fan, and reports earlier this year suggested some doctors were concerned with the amount of time The Queen stays watching television late into the night.

Mrs Brown's Boys is a BBC One omedy starring Brendan O'Carroll as loud-mouthed Irish matriarch Agnes Brown, whose favourite pastime is meddling in the lives of her six children.

It will be back with a New Year special after airing on Christmas Day.
