Mrs Brown's Boys to cover Covid, lockdown and a break-in for Christmas specials

Mrs Brown's Boys is once again at the centre of the BBC One festive line-up as show creator Brendan O'Carroll reprises his role as Mrs Brown on Christmas Day and New Year's Day

Mrs Brown's Boys looks set to have Christmas specials depicting the impact of Covid-19 and a break-in.

The BBC One comedy will be back in the festive television line-up for two 2020 special episodes, led by star and show creator Brendan O'Carroll.

Teasing the episodes, Brendan told Sunday World: "For Christmas Day show it's a quiet household at the Browns.

"With Covid restrictions, visitors are few, although nobody can dent Agnes' usual devotion to the holiday."

Mrs Brown's beloved Christmas tree sounds like it may have been through the ringer too as it may be "recovering from Covid".

The creator and actor also teased other plot elements to look forward to from the specials.

O'Carroll teased: "How did Winnie cope with lockdown?

"How will Father Damien get the Christmas message across?

"What Was Buster up to with the Bard of Avon?

"And who is this 'Dickie' that is terrorising the Finglas area?"

He also added that Agnes becomes the winner for a competition to reply to the Queen's Christmas message on television, so we can only imagine what that will be like!

Meanwhile, O'Carroll also teased the New Year's Day instalment with Cathy unhappy as her birthday arrives, while Buster and Dermot go butterfly hunting!

Elsewhere, poor Agnes' best friend Winnie will be recovering following a break-in!

While the laughs will likely be there aplenty, there will be no studio audience for this year's special episodes due to Covid-19.

However, the cast self-isolated before filming in Glasgow and took Covid-19 tests to enable them to film like normal so at least they won't be keeping their distance so obviously!

The official synopsis for the Christmas Day episode, entitled Mammy of the People , reads: "It's Christmas in Finglas, and Mrs Brown is coping with life after lockdown.

"As she gets news of a very special competition, Grandad, Winnie and Father Damien come to her for help."

Elsewhere, the New Year's Day episode sounds no less eventful and is entitled Mammy's Memories?

It reads: "The new year starts badly when Winnie’s place is burgled and her mother’s much-loved wedding ring is missing.

"Meanwhile, Cathy is worried about her impending birthday."

Will everything go as planned? We hope not!

Mrs Brown's Boys airs at 10pm on both Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
