It's the potty-mouthed comedy that divides opinion in Britain – but Mrs Brown’s Boys is winning a whole new audience of sitcom fans around the world.

Creator Brendan O’Carroll, who plays formidable Irish housewife Agnes ‘Mammy’ Brown on the show, has revealed the show is hugely popular on the east coast of America and is the number one comedy in Jamaica. 

And now there are plans to cash in its global reputation with a new tour of a musical version called Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Live Show.


t will play across the UK next year before the cast heads off to play New Zealand, South Africa, the US and Canada in 2021.

Despite regularly being panned by critics, with some accusing the TV show of racism and homophobia, a festive special featured in the top ten most viewed Christmas programmes, with 4.6 million tuning in.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2, O’Carroll described the show’s success as ‘off the scale’, adding: ‘Listen, Mrs Brown’s Boys is the number one comedy in Jamaica!’

The 64-year-old comic said the 2020 tour would take in a number of cities it had not visited in previous years. 

‘There are places in the UK we don’t get to because we only tour for 12 weeks.

‘In that 12 weeks you cannot get everywhere. We have never done Mrs Brown in Bournemouth, Hull, Edinburgh or Blackpool, so we are going to do that.’
