BRENDAN O’CARROLL’S wife Jennifer Gibney, who stars as Cathy Brown in Mrs Brown’s Boys, admitted she was “shaking” with nerves before taking on a new challenge recently.

Jennifer Gibney, 55, opened up about a nerve-wracking moment she experienced ahead of her first golf tournament. The actress, who is married to Mrs Brown’s Boys creator and star Brendan O’Carroll, 63, admitted she was affected by illness when she first competed in the Celebrity Cup at Celtic Manor. Ahead of this year’s event, which took place last month, Jennifer said exclusively to Express.uk: “I’m really excited because last year I was ill at this time and I’d never played myself. “So I was determined to get my handicap down to 18, which I have to in order to compete, so I worked on that to get my place on the team so I was incredibly nervous.”

Before stepping out to play the game, the Cathy Brown star admitted her “legs were shaking” in anticipation.
She continued: “About 20 minutes before I started I was in the changing room and my legs were shaking and I’m going, ‘Why did I do this, why am I doing this voluntarily?’
“So I got that out of the way and it’s such a relaxed atmosphere and wonderful weekend so although I’m nervous I’m really excited.
“It’s a great fun weekend. We’re hoping Ireland will win it this year because we haven’t before.”
Jennifer also revealed golf is a form of “escape” for her and her husband Brendan.
She added: “We love golf, it’s our escape. When we’re at home we play golf most days.
“It’s one of the few places you can go and people know you’re unavailable on the phone or by email.”
The couple, who are currently based in Florida, live next to a golf course and manage to fit in plenty of practice.
Jennifer explained: “We’re not doing a lot of golf on the road but we did.
“We live in Florida and we played quite a bit there because we live right by a golf course, so we had a lovely few weeks of being able to practice.”
However, the actress went on to admit she can get “competitive” with Brendan
She divulged: “We give each other a run for our money, I’m a little bit competitive with him.”
Elsewhere, Jennifer Gibney addressed a “funny” on-stage incident involving the Agnes Brown actor while they performed in Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Musical.
She pointed out: “As you’ve seen on the TV show, if a mistake happens Brendan isn’t going to gloss over it, he will acknowledge that it happens and leave it in.
“Anything that happens on stage he just goes with it and makes it part of the show.”
The star then gave an example of Brendan’s cheeky ways as she recalled: “One of the actors who isn’t in one of the dancer teams was on stage and he just left him on so he had to try to join in at various stages, which was terrifying for him but very funny for the rest of us.
“It keeps everyone on their toes, there’s no sense of complacency because you have no idea what’s going to happen.”
