BRENDAN O’CARROLL’S wife Jennifer Gibney opened up about the moment she first saw her husband dressed up as Mrs Brown, as the Mrs Brown's Boys actress admitted the situation was “a bit weird”.
Brendan O’Carroll, 63, is best known for playing the star of Mrs Brown’s Boys, Agnes. However, when the actor unveiled his costume in his debut show as the foul-mouthed matriarch, his wife Jennifer Gibney, 54, was initially in shock over the transformation. The actress revealed she first saw her husband dressed up as Mrs Brown “on stage”. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Jennifer admitted: “It was to the wire before we went up so we did a dress rehearsal but he kind of just did a hybrid which I can’t stand to see when he has the gear on but not the makeup on with the wig, so it’s a bit weird.”

Fortunately, the Irish star, who plays Cathy Brown in the comedy series, managed to get over the surprising costume as she came to terms with the fact that Mrs Brown was “a complete character in her own right”.
She added: “So, I didn’t see him as Mrs Brown until he came downstairs at the start of the show so I looked up the stairs and saw him there as Mrs Brown, but there’s something about him being Mrs Brown and it’s not Brendan.
“She’s a complete character in her own right and although I said, ‘Oh god I wasn’t expecting that,’ when I saw her coming out at the top of the stairs, half of that you just accept.
“It’s part of the magic of the show because people buy into the fact that he’s our mother and obviously he looks nothing like Mrs Brown off stage.”
Brendan and Jennifer are currently starring alongside their family in Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Musical?, which is stopping at various stadiums across the country.
Addressing their cheeky on-stage antics during the production, Jennifer explained: “There’s always something unexpected that happens.

“If you went to see the show twice, you wouldn’t see the same show.
"It grows every night because Brendan thinks on the fly and ideas come to him where he can mess around with the rest of us on stage and make it challenging night by night.”
The actress recalled a particular evening when one actor was challenged to join in with one of the dancer teams which he was completely unfamiliar with.
She said: “One of the actors, who isn’t in one of the dancer teams, was on stage and he just left him on so the actor had to try to join in at various stages, which was terrifying for him but very funny for the rest of us.
“It keeps everyone on their toes. There’s no sense of complacency because you have no idea what’s going to happen.”

Outside her role on the BBC series, Jennifer enjoys playing golf with her husband and is set to take part in the Celebrity Cup at Celtic Manor Resort.
Speaking about the challenge, the TV personality revealed she has been practicing at home in Florida with Brendan.
She explained: “We live in Florida and we played quite a bit there because we live right by a golf course so we had a lovely few weeks of being able to practice.
"We’re going to wait until we get to Celtic Manor now and do a practice round and hope for the best.”
