Brendan O'Carroll threatened to QUIT Mrs. Brown's Boys due to his appearance

He also fell into the role by accident

Brendan O’Carroll threatened to quit Mrs. Brown's Boys for one very important reason.

The Irish comedian fell into the role of the Dublin matriarch almost by accident, but getting the look right was very important to him.

He would have refused to begin filming if the appearance of Mrs. Brown was incorrect.

"I got a guy who was a great make-up artist, and I said, 'make me up as Mrs Brown as you see her, no mirror, and when you’re finished I’ll turn around and look in the mirror and if I don’t see Mrs Brown, then I’m not doing this,'" he said.

Speaking on Lorraine, Brendan explained: "So I turned around, looked in the mirror and there was my mother looking back at me."

While he famous for playing Agnes Brown, he was never supposed to actually be her.

He was forced to fill in for the lead role on the radio show after he called in sick with a kidney infection. Not one to throw in the towel, Brendan improvised and the rest, as they say, is history.

"I thought I would do her lines and then when she was better we would dub her lines in," he began.

Brendan went to tell Lorraine Kelly on the ITV breakfast show: "So just for authenticity, I did that voice, that Mrs Brown’s voice and when it went to the edit it was the editor who said, 'Who’s that actress playing Mrs Brown?' and I said, 'Don’t be ridiculous. That’s me.'"

All Round to Mrs. Brown's returns to RTE and BBC this weekend. Will you be tuning in?
