Mrs Brown's Boys highest rated Christmas show as 612,000 viewers tune into RTE

Mrs Brown confirmed she is still queen of the ratings after RTE revealed the Christmas special was a roaring success.

Tuesday’s episode of the Brendan O’Carroll classic was watched by 612,000 viewers on RTE One, a 41% share of the total audience.

The most popular movie over the festive season was Home Alone, which averaged 337,000 viewers, new figures revealed yesterday.


he statistics brought some much-needed good news for funnyman Brendan after it was revealed only 4.7 million people tuned in on BBC One on Christmas Day, a drop of more than two million compared to last year.

Mrs Brown’s Boys had attracted almost seven million British viewers in 2017, topping the festive ratings for the sixth time.

This year’s episode however was only the eighth most-watched show on Christmas Day in the UK.

Meanwhile, RTE also revealed nearly half a million viewers tuned in for the seasonal special of The Young Offenders.

Fair City’s hour-long Christmas Day episode had an average audience of just under 350,000, with almost 400,000 tuning in for the follow-up on St Stephen’s Day.
