Tributes have been flooding in following the death of The Script’s co-founder and guitarist Mark Sheehan.

The Irish musician died after a brief illness aged 46, and his passing was announced by the band via social media yesterday.

Among those paying their respects is the team behind the show Mrs Browns Boys, who worked with the band on the films and popular TV show.

Sharing a series of snapshots of the cast with Mark and and the band they penned a heartfelt caption expressing their loss:

"We were so privileged to have worked with Mark Sheehan on our movie and TV show," they said.

"Our sincere condolences to your family and friends you are truly loved and will be missed by millions, sleep tight brother."

Others who have paid tribute to Mark include Ryan Tubridy, who spoke of his passing on The Late Late Show.

"Before we go, we heard some terribly sad news this evening. As you know The Script are a wonderful Irish band, we've had the pleasure of having them on the show many many times," he said.

"We are devastated this evening to hear of the untimely passing of Mark."

"Guitarist with The Script, Mark performed on the couch right here. We always loved having him on with the lads.

"He loved his bandmates, loved his jobs, adored his fans, it's impossible to look at that and think he won't return.

"Tonight we're thinking of Mark's wife, family, children, bandmates Danny and Glen, our thoughts and prayers are with you tonight. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam."

Fellow Irish hitmaker Hozier also shared his condolances, writing: "So saddened to hear about this. Thinking of you all and of Mark’s family right now and sending love. Sincere condolences to you all.”

Danny O'Donoghue and Mark were best friends after growing up together in Dublin, and formed part of a boy band called Mytown in 1996.

Along with drummer Glen Power they made The Script, releasing their eponymous debut album in 2008.

“Much loved husband, father, brother, bandmate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness,” the band said in a statement on April 14th.

“The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.”
