Fiona O’Carroll is “delighted” for her ex-husband Martin Delany as he lives his “best life” in Portugal.

The Mrs Brown’s Boys star opened up about her love life since announcing her divorce last year.

She explained that neither she or Martin should have to “settle” as it was unfair on them and their children.

Fiona shared that there is still a lot of love between herself and Martin but their relationship wasn’t working.

“At the end of the day we were friends first. I met Martin when I was 16 and there was no massive fall out, we just grew apart,” she told Evoke.

“I still love Martin very much and he still loves me but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t and it's unfair on both of us and on the kids, I think, to try and continue a relationship that’s not really working.

“I don’t think anyone should have to settle. It’s important for everyone to pursue happiness. Martin is living his best life in Portugal and I am delighted for him.”

She explained that they continue to work together as they parent their four sons together.

“We co parent and we are both on the same page when it comes to our kids and that will never change - our children will always come first.”

“Parenting is a tough job and a lot of people make the mistake of trying to be their children’s friend.

“But you have to have that boundary where you are the parent, and you have to say no. Although it’s hard and they are upset, you know in the long run it’s better for them.

“But as the grandparent you don’t have to do that, and you can do all the bold things when the mammy isn’t looking.

“That’s what grandparents should be and that’s what I want my parents to be for my kids. I don’t want them to see my kids as a chore or a job.”
