She’s back…
Tyler Perry movies are pretty “love or hate” them, but if you fall into the first camp then you’ve certainly had plenty to watch over the years.
His biggest character creation is Madea, who Tyler himself has portrayed over a bunch of movies beginning with Diary of a Mad Black Woman in 2005, although the character dates back to a play in 1999.
Netflix has rolled out the character’s latest adventure – A Madea Homecoming – with a range of familiar faces returning. However, the latest new addition to the Madea cinematic universe may have you curious.
With that in mind, let’s address who the character of Mrs Brown is to Madea.
MRS BROWN’S CONNECTION TO MADEA EXPLAINED
Mrs Brown is Davi’s (Isha Blaaker) grand-aunt, who is visiting the family homecoming alongside Tim.
So, Mrs Brown and Madea aren’t related but their paths cross because of two families coming together. The character of Mrs Brown was created and played by Brendan O’Carrell.
Mrs Brown’s Boys is a popular comedy TV series and A Madea Homecoming is essentially a crossover movie, marking the very first time that the characters have been featured in the same project together.
“IT IS VERY HUMBLING”
As it turns out, this curious crossover has been years in the making, as Tyler addressed during a conversation with the Irish Independent:
Brendan also comments on the collaboration, admitting that “it is very humbling. When you look at the career that Tyler has had, it’s been a meteoric rise, he doesn’t stop. But I know how hard he has had to work to get there. So to see that express train coming and be on it and a part of it was amazing.”

When being interviewed by Screenrant, Tyler was asked about Brendan saying the pair of them may take the film on tour in 2023.
“Brendan’s such a jokester,” Tyler replied. “So you never know when he’s telling the truth. But I’m taking it one step at a time, because it’s such an overwhelming time in my life, with the business and career and everything – and my son.”
Another collaboration may just be on the cards.
