Brendan O’Carroll’s incredible €50k gesture when ‘he wasn’t earning’ is real Christmas spirit, says Rory Cowan

RORY Cowan has praised Brendan O’Carroll for giving €50,000 to charity at Christmas, saying: “It came out of his pocket when he wasn’t earning.”

Mrs Brown star Bren was honoured on the Late Late before Xmas for his St Vincent de Paul contributions, who, he says, helped his family when he was a child.

And he impressed Ryan Tubridy and viewers when he personally donated €50,000 to help the charity, which works with needy families.

Rory said he was amazed by the generosity of his former boss, given that Brendan has been unable to tour with the Mrs Brown’s Boys live show in recent years, with his only earnings coming from the Christmas specials which air on BBC and RTE.

Rory told the Irish Sun: “You wouldn’t earn enough from two Mrs Brown Christmas specials to have €50,000 to spare to donate to SVP. That huge donation would have had to come out of Brendan’s own pocket when he wasn’t earning.

“With Covid, Brendan hasn’t toured in over two years. That’s where Mrs Brown’s Boys earned their money — so €50,000? That’s the real spirit of charity.”

DONATION ROW
Brendan recalled how SVP helped his mum when his dad died and she had to raise 11 kids.

After making the donation, a row broke out between Rory and his Mrs Brown’s Boys replacement Damien McKiernan.

Damien tweeted people who publicly talk about their charity work are “just doing a PR stunt”.

Rory labelled it a “cheap shot”.
