A shady new relative intent on fleecing the family will be introduced to the Mrs Brown's Boys cast this Christmas.

For the 10th year in a row, the much loved BBC comedy will welcome viewers to join in its festivities as Agnes and her brood return to screens for two festive specials - one on Christmas Day and one on New Year's Day.

A teaser for the Christmas episode reads: "It’s Christmas in Finglas once again. Agnes has been recruited to the church choir, but she’s under strict instructions from Father McBride that there’s to be no singing and certainly no dancing.

"That’s not the only thing off-limits, a Christmas tree shortage means Buster has to get even more creative than usual trying to impress Agnes by any means necessary."

It continued: "Meanwhile Dermot and Buster have organised this year’s festivities at Foleys and are holding a Murder Mystery night in aid of alcoholic greyhounds. What could possibly go wrong?"

Mrs Brown's Boys stars Brendan O'Carroll and Jennifer Gibney heightened anticipation for the new episodes with an appearance on This Morning on Monday, sharing their delight at being able to film, at a time when things are still restricted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And when asked by hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield for details on the New Year show, Brendan let slip that a troublesome relative arrives on the scene.

Pushing for details, Holly said: "There's a new character coming to stay and not a particularly trustworthy one."

Lifting the lid on the new family member, Brendan explained: "Mickey. They all thought he was in prison for life, he's a conman; but he gets out of prison and he's coming over from Liverpool to see Grandad,.

"But he's actually coming to con Granddad out of five grand and Agnes does her best to try and stop him."

Giving another take on what happens in the New Year episode, a preview explains: "This New Year is all about reconciliation and fresh starts in the Brown household but not everyone seems to have got the message.

"Grandad’s brother, Micky, is fresh out of prison when he decides to stop by for a visit.

"Everyone except Grandad is suspicious when he shows up asking for five thousand euro to invest in a South African gold mine."
