Mrs Brown’s Boys shows cancelled by Brendan O'Carroll this summer

The show creator and show released a statement: “We had hoped to be putting our rescheduled 2020 shows on in 2021 but as time has gone on we can see that is not going to happen"

Brendan O’Carroll has cancelled this summer’s Mrs Brown’s Boys live tour around Ireland and the UK.

The show star and creator said that the health of staff and crew, as well as the audience, was the most important thing for them.

They had hoped that having 30 percent of audiences in the arenas would work but that won't be enough to sustain the tour.

Instead, the tour, which was supposed to kick off in June, will be rescheduled to the summer of 2021.

Brendan said: “We had hoped to be putting our rescheduled 2020 shows on in 2021 but as time has gone on we can see that is not going to happen."

He added: “I think the best we could have hoped for is that they would have allowed in a third of the audience but that is not going to be enough for you or for us."

Plans are in full swing to get to tour back on the road in 2022 when more of the population will be vaccinated and there will be less of a health risk.

Brendan continued: “So we are working with our promoters to reschedule the June and July dates for 2022.

“We’re looking forward to that and I hope you stick with us because we are dying to give you a laugh and I am dying to have a laugh myself.

"In the meantime, we have to take into consideration your health, the health of the cast and the crew, and the health of the staff in the arenas.

"So we don’t want to take any chances and by the the time we get to the dates everyone will be vaccinated."

The 65-year-old went on to say that there will be further updates once they have them.

He said: "It has been a tough time for us, as it has been for you, with the lockdown and the restrictions

"As soon as we have any more news, we will update you."

Mrs. Brown's Boys will return to screens later this year with a live show at Halloween.

And the annual festive specials will air on RTÉ and BBC on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.
