Gary Hollywood is set to turn his back on comedy in a bid to move on from Mrs Brown’s Boys.

After playing for laughs as Dino Doyle for years, the actor wants to go to the dark side and star in a gritty drama.

He said: “With Mrs Brown’s Boys, I was involved in a job that enabled me to have a nice life.

“But it also held me back because I’ve not been able to do other things. I played Dino for so long, so I’d love to do a serious role to take me away from that.

“I’d love to go back into drama and do something in a completely different light.”

Gary quit Mrs Brown’s Boys last year after having a ding- dong with show boss Brendan O’Carroll over pay.

Now he is away from the show he is keen to look to the future.

He said: “I want to put all this s*** out of my head and I want to go and be a jobbing actor. I am going to do other acting gigs and take on whatever may come my way.

“I am not frightened. I have been an actor for 20 years.

“I am quite excited to see what the future holds – that’s what actors do. I am excited for the future.

“I’ll take 2021 as it comes. I’ll be ready for it. I have my strength back.”

Insiders have said Gary already has a string of TV offers on the table plus a book deal.
