Mrs Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll has denied there are any bad feelings over actor Gary Hollywood leaving the smash-hit show.

He said the Scotsman, 41, who played gay hairdresser Dino Doyle, left because his personal circumstances had changed.

Brendan added: “Some people claimed Gary left because of a row over money but it wasn’t true.

“They didn’t know the full story and it was amicable.

“I got a lot of abuse over it on social media but I let it go over my head. Gary is a fabulous act and has worked with us on and off for over 20 years.

“He decided he wanted to follow his own star and we are delighted for him.”

Gary split from his first wife Sharon Mudre, with whom he has two sons Jack and Charlie, and they divorced in 2017.

He then met Cherylane and remarried a year later. They have a son, Oliver.

Mrs Brown’s Boys has been signed up to BBC Scotland and was filmed in Glasgow from the get-go. The chat show All Round To Mrs Brown’s is also filmed there.

Brendan said: “Gary decided to move to Spain and set up a new life for himself and fair play to him.”

Gary’s other half in the show, Rory Cowan, left the show a few years ago.

Mrs Brown’s Boys is one of the BBC’s biggest success stories.

This year’s Christmas Special, at 9.45pm on RTE One and 10pm on BBC One, is set to be a cracker.
