Mrs Brown’s Boys star Gary Hollywood has opened up about the tragic passing of his brother Gerard earlier this year.
Just two months after the actor welcomed his first baby boy Ollie with his wife Cherylanne, Hollywood’s brother suffered two heart attacks.
Gary, who plays Dino Doyle on the show, explained that his brother ‘was only nine years older than me — he was 50.’
‘The great thing was little Ollie kept all our minds going. We had to keep going for Ollie,’ he told New Magazine. ‘He helped us all grieve together’.
‘It was very weird how it all worked out. We could’ve got trapped here in Lanzarote and then I wouldn’t have been there for Mum and Dad and my other brothers,’ he continued.
Reflecting on the birth of his first child during a holiday to Glasgow, Mr Hollywood said ‘it’s been crazy’.
‘Cherylanne went four weeks early, which we did not plan at all. She didn’t have a hospital bag, we had no clothes for the baby, we had no car.
‘Then he joined us and he wasn’t maintaining his body temperature so we had to stay in the hospital for a week.
‘The NHS were fantastic — they gave us a room and me a bed so I could stay, just as this was all kicking off.’

‘We thought, “We’ll fly home once he gets his first injections,” and that’s when lockdown happened.’
‘It’s been great staying with my mum and dad, but five months later? Both parties were like, ‘OK, we need our own space now before we end up killing each other’.
Gary reflected on the madness that this year had brought just ahead of filming for this year’s Mrs. Brown’s Boys Christmas Special.
None of us see the scripts until the first day of a readthrough,’ he explained, not giving much away. ‘Knowing Brendan I am sure he will incorporate coronavirus into it.
‘I am looking forward to seeing the comedy side of it, to give us the laughs.’
