Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O'Carroll, 64, and his wife Jennifer Gibney, 55, returned to screens with their new series of All Round To Mrs Brown’s last weekend. In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk ahead of the new series, he spoke out about an awkward moment which left his guest Emilia Fox, 45, red-faced.

The Silent Witness star brought her mum Joanna on the show as a guest, but it appears as though the latter revealed a little too much about the actress.

Revealing all, Brendan said: “As far as Mrs Brown’s is concerned, she has to ask them [guest’s parents] one question and they’re off telling stories.

“At one stage, Emilia Fox put her head through the hatch in the kitchen and just had a roar.

“[She was like] ‘Mum stop talking!’ Her mum was just telling story after story, she was fabulous.”

The actor went on to explain why having guest’s parents on the show is a good idea.

He divulged: “You get a big star on and they do the big star bit and then Jenny introduces their mum on and they just turn into 12-year-olds, just like I do, like we all do when our mums are around, you turn into a different person.”

Brendan added that most of his guests have, thankfully, had a good sense of humour on the show

“They understand that we’re going to have a bit of fun,” he added.

“But, we’re not going to take the p***, particularly, we’re not going to take the p*** out of your mum or your dad.

“We treat them with dignity and care. We just have a laugh.”

Brendan and his wife, who married in 2005, have had a string of guests on the show since it first aired in 2017.

Guests have included This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield and Eamonn Holmes.

When asked if he ever gets nervous interviewing his guests, particularly presenters, he said it’s his wife who finds it more daunting.

Brendan explained: “I’m not so bad because I get to put on a wig and hide behind a disguise.

“Jenny however, she’s playing a character, who is playing a talk show host.

“That makes it difficult for her, she does find it, not difficult but a bit daunting

Praising the presenters he’s had on the show, he added: “They were really generous.”

Reflecting on one particular moment, he said: “We’re very lucky, Gloria Hunniford was one of the earliest ones we had on and she just set the bar.

“She was like, ‘This is how I’m going to be, I’m going to be a guest and let Jenny host the show’.

Tonight, Emilia Fox and her mum will join guests comedian Lee Mack and the legendary Billy Ocean on the show.

All Round to Mrs Brown’s continues next Saturday 9.15pm on BBC One.
