Family members of Mrs Brown’s Boys star Dermot ‘Bugsy’ O’Neill have asked for prayers after he was rushed to hospital over Christmas.

The actor, who plays Grandad in the hit  show  was put on a feeding tube by docs after complaining of feeling unwell over the holidays.

His wife, Chickie O’Neill, said he was left “exhausted” after receiving treatment for cancer.

She said, “What we didn’t want to happen, happened. Dermo has been hospitalised to rehydrate him and be put on a feeding tube," RSVP Live reports.

“Two more chemo sessions left and eight radiotherapy sessions. It’s been a tough road for him. Let’s all send him our love to get him over the finish line.”

“The radiation and chemo has him exhausted and unable to eat.

"We will have a very subdued time this year as the core of the family will not be there to relax and celebrate with us," she told the Irish Sun.

Dermot’s daughter Sharon also reached out to fans for support as she shared a snap of her dad, who’s in his mid-60s, on social media during  Christmas  .

“This is my dad we all love so much, he’s been rushed into hospital this morning.

“I wouldn’t normally put this on Facebook. But I’m asking will you all say a prayer he gets better soon.

"He has six beautiful  grandchildren  who love him so much.

“He’s their hero in their eyes. Dad you’re a fighter and we all love you more than you will ever know.

"So can you all keep him in your prayers please. Love from all our family,” she wrote.
