Mrs Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll plans to turn the cast of his hit BBC show into a modern-day comedy troupe just like the Carry On team.

He is all geared up to film a pilot sitcom called The Lebanese Outpost in the summer.

It will feature all the stars from Mrs Brown’s Boys playing new and different characters.

Brendan said: “It’s like they had with the stars of the Carry On films.

"It was the same faces but for each film they played different roles and were in different situations. It will be the same for us.”

In the Carry On films from the 1960s and 1970s, Kenneth Williams, Babs Windsor, Sid James, Hattie Jacques and Charles Hawtrey would all appear regularly in various guises.

And in Brendan’s future shows, the Mrs Brown’s Boys’ cast – which includes his wife Jennifer Gibney and his children Danny, Fiona and Eric O’Carroll – will all pop up.

The Lebanese Post centres on a group of Irish peacekeeping troops who patrol the border between Lebanon and Israel.

Brendan added: "I call it a cross between It Ain’t Half Hot Mum and M*A*S*H."

● Mrs Brown’s Boys New Year’s Day special is on BBC One at 10.30pm.
