BROWNED OFF Mrs Brown’s Boys star Eilish O’Carroll ‘disabled by nerves’ before messing up steps on Dancing With The Stars but vows to stage fightback

The Finglas woman is hoping to overcome the terror of dancing on live TV, which scuppered her group dance with the girls on the first show

MRS Brown star Eilish O’Carroll has said she was “disabled by nerves” when she messed up all her steps on Dancing With The Stars last weekend.

But the 66-year-old plans to stage a fightback tonight as she tangos with her ‘patient’ dance partner Ryan McShane.

The Finglas woman is hoping to overcome the terror of dancing on live TV, which scuppered her group dance with the girls on the first show.

Eilish told The Irish Sun: “What was nerve-wracking was I felt in a group dance I was letting everybody down. Everybody was nervous but the nerves got hold of me, to such a point that they practically disabled me.

“Every step, from start to finish was wrong but as Ryan said, I was doing my own thing by the end which was brilliant in a way.”

But the comedian and actress has vowed tonight will be different, as she tangos with partner Ryan who she credits with offering her total support.

Eilish said: “It’s handy that Ryan teaches kids as he can be so patient and thoughtful with me.”

It was the Irish Sun which first revealed last October that DWTS would be getting a bit of Mrs Brown in the shape of Agnes’ neighbour Winnie McGoogan.

However fans of the hit BBC comedy were shocked to see how much younger Eilish was than her TV character Winnie.

She revealed: “When my dancing picture went up on the Mrs Brown Facebook, the fans were going ‘that is never Winnie McGoogan’.

“But I’m still one of the most mature contestants taking part so it’s even being on the show and dancing is a win. People thought I was crazy doing Dancing With The Stars but it was something I really wanted to do.”

Although Mrs Brown’s Boys pulls millions of viewers, Eilish still wonders whether fans will be there to help her stay in the competition, come voting time.

She said: “All the English fans can’t vote in Ireland and I don’t really know if Irish fans of Mrs Brown’s Boys watch Dancing With The Stars.

“I would love to stay in the show as long as I can. Could I win?

“Well miracles are possible and the impossible takes a bit longer. I’m really only in it for the joy of the dancer.”

Eilish is set to perform a tango tonight

Best known for playing Mrs Brown’s neighbour, Eilish came out as a lesbian at the age of 50, after being married twice and having grown-up children.

There had been speculation that herself and fashion guru Darren Kennedy, who is also out, might opt to dance with same-sex partners.

While very happy with male dance partner Ryan, Eilish said she would be up for a same sex partner on DWTS switch week when the celebs swap professional dancers.

She said: “I’d be up for that. Why not? After all, a dance like the Charleston originated from two women dancing with each other.

“From day one, if the producers of Dancing With The Stars had said to me ‘Surprise, surprise Eilish, your partner is going to be a woman,’ it wouldn’t have been an issue.”

Win or lose, Eilish thinks all this dancing could well come in useful for the forthcoming Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Musical.

The arena tour will reportedly encompass 48 gigs in 12 cities, and Mrs Brown creator O’Carroll said in December that Noddy Holder of Slade was helping with the music, and he hoped pop band The Script would contribute a song, too.

Eilish joked: “I haven’t seen a script but if Winnie McGoogan does come out dancing, it won’t have to be as perfect as DWTS.”

Eilish previously put on her heels and sequins to dance with a professional dancer in a mini-Dancing With The Stars on RTE’s Today Show in 2017.

The dance-mad Winnie turned up on the show each Monday to review the performances in the previous weekend’s Dancing With The Stars.
